Biomedical Therapy

Biomedical Therapy for AutismThis is therapy aimed at correcting any system imbalances the child may have as there is strong evidence to suggest that ASD has links to leaky gut, nutritional deficiencies, food sensitivities and allergies.

Biomedical intervention has produced some amazing gains for ASD children.

It does not hurt to try!

Actions:

Contact a Naturopath who specializes in dietary intervention for ASD children to ascertain any health issues, vitamin and mineral depletion, food sensitivities, allergies, high levels of heavy metals and toxins. Blake Graham is a Nutritionalist who works in Subiaco and has a keen interest in ASD and biomedical intervention. His website is www.nutritional-healing.com.au and phone number is 9381 4112.

Supplements:

Investigate supplementing with good quality fish oil. Parents are reporting increase in eye contact, less self stimulating behaviours and less anxiety in children taking fish oil supplements. Both Eye Q Oil and Metagenics Omega Care for Kids are being recommended by practitioners and available from www.pharmacyonline.com.au and good health food stores like Good Life Subiaco (Subi Centro)

If you are having trouble with your child sleeping, arrange to make an appointment with a Nutritionalist or Paediatrian and ask them whether melatonin supplementation could help your child sleep. There is information on melatonin and its pros and cons in Autism: Effective Biomedical Treatments (see above).

www.kirkmanlabs.com is a supplement company in the US who make products specifically for children on the spectrum. Their website is very informative and products can be bought easily online and shipment to Australia usually takes about 7-10 days. It is recommended that you consult a practitioner about the supplements you give your child for guidance and to prevent any negative responses.

Darifree is powdered milk that has no casein, gluten and is recommended for children with diet sensitivities. It is now available in Australia and can be purchased online from http://www.gcfree.com/ or phone 07 5522 8731. It is really good for baking and is much creamier than rice milk. They also have a great premix for ice cream, which works really well.

www.smashi.com make lollies that have no preservatives or colours and are made with rice milk and nuttelex. The service is fantastic and presentation certainly fooled my six year old! They are an Australian company based in Qld.
